Olly HicksOlly Hicks:

Olly is the youngest man to have rowed the Atlantic solo and the first man to row solo west to east. His big ambition is to make the first circumnavigation of Antarctica in a rowing boat so this trip is little more than a warm up. Olly is relatively new to sea kayaking but has spent enough time at sea to know exactly what he is taking on but there is little doubt that he'll miss the warmth and comfort of his row boat cabin.

In 2005 Olly Hicks, after 124 days at sea, became the first person to row solo from America to England as well as becoming the youngest person ever to row an ocean alone aged 23.

Olly HicksDuring the Atlantic voyage Olly was inspired to take on an even bolder challenge - to row around the bottom of the world. After 2 years preparation OIly set off in early 2009 from Tasmania heading into the Southern Ocean for an anticipated 18 month voyage around the world. Due to a design flaw with the boat Olly suspended the voyage after 3 moth s and landed in New Zealand. He is now preparing to launch again in 2011 with a newly designed and proven boat.

On the kayaking front Olly has completed the Devizes to Westminster race twice and came 5th in the solo Kayak class. Olly is now planning a kayak voyage from Iceland to Scotland in Summer 2012. In 2011 Olly is joining 2 expeditions retracing wartime escape routes one from Shetland to Norway in July (www.kayaksonshetlandbus.com) and one from Holland to the Suffolk Coast in August.
